Which Bailey do you own?

Bailey has produced several distinct motorhome ranges. Approach and Autograph models are familiar coachbuilts, while the Adamo range uses a Ford base and has its own layouts and equipment. Give the complete name and model number when asking for a quote. “Bailey four berth” is not enough to identify the vehicle.

Check what the registration lookup has found

The registration may bring up Peugeot or Ford details first. Read the quotation summary and make sure it also describes the finished Bailey motorhome. An engine size and registration year identify the cab, but they do not record the habitation body, furniture, appliances and other equipment behind it.

If the model does not appear, speak to the provider. Choosing a different Bailey derivative because it has the same number of berths can give the wrong weight, body length or value.

Weight varies within the range

Find the maximum authorised mass on the plate. Some Bailey motorhomes fall within the usual category B limit of 3,500kg, while others are heavier or may have been uprated. Anyone who will drive it needs the corresponding entitlement on their licence. The available payload is worth checking separately before travel, particularly after fitting an awning, extra battery, satellite system or cycle carrier.

Describe additions properly

Baileys are often sold with optional packs or dealer-fitted extras. Keep the original specification if you have it. When the insurer asks about modifications, explain which items came with the motorhome and which were added later. Mention a tow bar, non-standard suspension, solar panels, security equipment and changes to the engine or wheels.

Value and water ingress

Use comparable Bailey models of a similar age and condition when estimating value. The price of a newer Autograph does not establish the value of an older Approach. If the policy offers new-for-old or agreed-value cover, read the qualifying conditions.

Do not assume comprehensive insurance pays for damp or a leaking body joint that has deteriorated gradually. Sudden storm damage and long-term water ingress are not the same event. Servicing and habitation checks remain relevant even when the vehicle is insured.

Compare the details that could matter to you

Look at glass limits, possessions, European travel, breakdown recovery, excesses and security conditions. If the Bailey is stored away from home, give the correct site and check whether the policy requires it to be kept there when not in use.
