Auto-Sleepers covers several kinds of vehicle
The previous version of this page wrongly discussed Autostar motorhomes. Auto-Sleepers is the British manufacturer behind familiar names such as Symbol, Warwick, Nuevo and Broadway. Its back catalogue includes compact van conversions, coachbuilt motorhomes and some Mercedes-based models. The precise model therefore needs to be on the quote.
A Symbol built inside a Peugeot panel van is quite different from a coachbuilt Nuevo or Broadway. The registration lookup may identify Peugeot, Fiat or Mercedes-Benz before it identifies the Auto-Sleepers conversion. Check the description on the quotation and correct it if the habitation model is missing.
Older models need a little more preparation
There are many older Auto-Sleepers still in regular use. For these, gather the handbook, purchase invoice and any record of later upgrades. A dealer advertisement for a pristine example does not necessarily establish the value of yours. Condition, mileage, damp history, servicing and specification all affect what a similar vehicle would cost to replace.
If you have an uncommon derivative and the online list does not show it, do not choose the nearest model name. The provider may be able to enter it manually or obtain a referred quote.
What has been added since it was built?
Owners commonly fit solar panels, additional batteries, cycle racks, awnings, satellite equipment, tow bars or upgraded security. Some items may have been factory options; others were fitted by a dealer or previous owner. Describe them accurately when asked. The same applies to changes to passenger seats, suspension, wheels or engine performance.
Weight and storage
Read the plated maximum authorised mass from the vehicle rather than relying on a sales listing. Some Auto-Sleepers can be driven on a standard category B licence, while heavier examples require the appropriate entitlement. Make sure every named driver is entitled to drive the actual plated vehicle.
Give the real overnight location. A driveway, street, locked building and specialist storage compound are not interchangeable answers. If the policy requires a tracker, alarm or physical lock, check exactly when it must be used and whether a subscription has to remain active.
Look beyond the premium
Compare windscreen cover, contents limits, excesses, European travel and breakdown recovery. Large coachbuilt windows, personal belongings and equipment carried outside the motorhome may each be treated differently. The cheapest quote is of little use if an important part of your particular Auto-Sleepers falls outside its limits.
