UK-supplied and imported Benimars
Benimar is a Spanish manufacturer, but many of its motorhomes have been built specifically for the British market. Others arrive as left-hand-drive imports. Tell the insurer which you have. Do not select right-hand drive simply because the online model list does not include the continental version.
The model range also matters. Tessoro, Mileo and Amphitryon vehicles include different chassis and body styles. Use the full model number from the handbook or build plate; a sales description such as “Benimar island bed” can apply to more than one derivative.
Ford or Fiat underneath?
Benimar has used Ford and Fiat base vehicles. The registration lookup may find the chassis without giving a complete description of the motorhome. Check the quote summary and, if necessary, provide the VIN or certificate of conformity so the finished model is recorded correctly.
Weighing up value and specification
Start with what comparable Benimars actually sell for in Britain. Handedness, mileage, age, condition and equipment all influence that figure. List material extras when asked—an awning, solar installation, tow bar, extra battery, cycle rack or upgraded media system should not disappear from the description simply because it came with the vehicle when you bought it.
Ask how a total loss would be valued. A market-value settlement, agreed figure and new-for-old clause work differently and come with their own conditions.
Check the plate, not an online advert
Read the maximum authorised mass from the vehicle. Some models are plated at 3,500kg and others above it. Every named driver must have the necessary licence entitlement. If the Benimar has been uprated or downplated, give the current figure and retain the supporting documents.
European travel is not automatic
A Spanish-built motorhome does not receive unlimited continental cover by virtue of where it was made. Check the countries included, the limit for each journey and the total number of days allowed. Breakdown assistance is a separate contract and may impose its own age, size and weight restrictions.
Finally, read any security and storage requirements. If the policy insists on a tracker or approved storage when the Benimar is not in use, those conditions need to match what you will actually do.
