Can you transfer a car no-claims discount to van insurance? Some insurers allow it, while others keep car and commercial-van discounts separate. The new insurer decides what evidence it will accept, so check before cancelling or replacing an existing policy.
A discount is not a portable balance
No-claims discount is a pricing concession, not money held in an account. Insurers use different scales, expiry periods and rules. Five years shown by one company may not produce the same reduction with another.
You normally cannot use it twice
A discount already supporting an active car policy cannot usually be applied to a van at the same time. Some insurers offer an introductory or mirrored discount, but that is a separate underwriting decision and may come with conditions.
Proof the van insurer may request
Have the renewal notice or cancellation letter showing the policyholder, vehicle, claim-free years and end date. Company-car driving history may sometimes be considered if the employer supplies suitable evidence.
Compare the whole quote
A large discount does not guarantee the lowest final premium or best terms. Compare excesses, drivers, use, tool or goods cover, replacement-vehicle terms and security conditions as well as the headline percentage.
